Recreational Fires

These requirements are for campfires and outdoor fireplace equipment; whether for cooking food for human consumption or similar purposes, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Fire shall be fueled with clean, seasoned firewood, natural or LP gas or any clean burning fuel with emissions that are equivalent to or lower than those created from the burning of seasoned firewood.
  2. Fires shall have a total fuel area of three feet or less in diameter; pits shall be no deeper than two feet.
  3. Fires shall not take place when atmospheric conditions will not readily dissipate contaminants, such as during an Air Quality Alert.
  4. All fires shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished.
  5. A minimum of one portable fire extinguisher with a minimum of a 4-A rating or other onsite fire is extinguished.

If the Scioto Township Fire Department receives a complaint of your fire, we will ask that the fire be extinguished. The burn laws are not Township laws, they are State of Ohio Laws and can be found here
